Winter’s doing its “powder to mashed potatoes” thing in a lot of places, but the fat-bike world is still full gas. This week we’ve got a shoreline court case that matters to anyone who rides beaches, a gorgeous new bag collection from Swift, winter races and photo galleries from Colorado to Idaho, and a quick look at who’s still building 26” fat and e-fat bikes. Plus: Fat-bike Lab is open to Weekly Dose readers, and the new Micro Dose podcast is live if you’d rather listen than scroll.

Backstage Pass — Fat-bike Lab (early access for Weekly Dose readers)

I’m opening Fat-bike Lab to newsletter subscribers before I share it more widely. Post an intro, drop a trail report, and help shape the community.

This Week’s Top Stories

Catamount Fat Bike Rally – Community Winter Party in Vermont

Catamount Outdoor Family Center is hosting its 6th Annual Fat Bike Rally with free access to the groomed fat-bike network and demo bikes for folks who don’t yet have their own rig. The event also spotlights their SnowDog groomer, originally funded through a mix of donors and the Richard Tom Foundation, as a great example of how small communities build sustainable winter riding. This is the kind of event that turns “I should try that someday” into “I’m buying studs this week.”

Beach Bikers (and walkers) Beware: New Wisconsin Trespassing Ruling

If you ride Wisconsin beaches, you need to know about this one. A Shorewood, WI municipal court ruling says walkers and riders must keep their feet/tires in the water when crossing some private shoreline, rather than riding the wet sand below the high-water mark. That means $300 tickets are on the table if you stray too far up the beach.

Trail Connections: Gravel, Fat Bike & More in Cedar Rapids

The Linn County Trails Association just shared a flexible 16‑mile loop around Cedar Rapids that blends gravel, optional singletrack, and winter fat-bike-friendly sections, plus a bonus stop at a petting zoo. It’s designed as a go-to route whether you’re on 2.2s in summer or 4.0s in February, which makes it a nice template for other towns looking to highlight fat-bike access. If you’re within striking distance of eastern Iowa, toss this one on your weekend list.

Races, Events & Stoke

Fat Bike Birkie 2026 — Saturday, February 28, 2026

The big one in Cable, WI is just about here. Multiple distances, huge fields, and the usual blend of perfect grooming + mild chaos.

Frisco Freeze Fat-Bike Event — Photo Gallery

Colorado riders threw down at the Frisco Freeze, and Summit Daily captured the action. Great mix of race shots, winter town vibes, and pure-fat-bike energy.

Mid Week Fat Bike Series — Snow-Dependent Life

Utah’s Mid Week Fat Bike Series saw their February 10 race cancelled due to lack of snow, which is… not ideal. Keep an eye on their page for the February 24 race and beyond: https://www.bikeutah.org/midweek/fatbike

E-Fat Corner — 26” Fat Tire E-Bikes

Best Fat-Tire E-Bikes of 2026 — Who’s Still All-In

Electric Bike Report’s annual list includes familiar names like the Aventon Aventure 3 and Lectric XPeak2 as top picks for fat-tire e-bikes—most running 26×4” tires and built for snow, sand, and off-pavement adventures.

Community Corner

Reddit Thread of the Week: “This Is It” (r/fatbike)

A long-time winter rider posts about rapidly warming temps and fading snow after weeks of cold. It’s very “late February feelings”: enjoy what’s left, run lower pressures, and get ready for that awkward mud period where everything is rideable and also… not.
