You made it to Thursday, which means it’s time to top off your sealant, tighten your BOA dials, and pretend your laundry pile is “layering strategy.” Winter is in full weird mode: some places are drowning in snow and others are wondering if winter forgot to show up. This week has a legit new bikepacking-y fatbike drop, some trail-access chatter, and at least one event that dangles bacon in the woods like it’s a perfectly normal thing to do. Plus, a pile of trail + race news from Colorado to New Hampshire. Toss in a few tasty gear picks and some 26” e-fatbike bits, and you’ve got your weekly excuse to procrastinate at work.

Are you racing this winter or just riding for fun? Hit reply and tell me.

Esker drops the Hayduke LVS FAT (limited edition Ti longtail)
Extra-long titanium fatbike vibes for folks who like big days and bigger triangles.
Esker’s new Hayduke LVS FAT is out in the wild, and it’s aimed squarely at the “bikepacking but make it chunky” crowd. If you’ve ever wished your fatbike had more room for a frame bag and more stability when things get weird, this is your click.

Freezetivus: Franklin Falls, NH fat-bike party (Feb 15)
Groomed terrain, demos, vendor village… and an actual bacon station.
NEMBA’s Freezetivus is fat-bike-only (3.8” minimum), capped at 250 riders, and it’s one of those community events where your entry fee goes back into trails. If your winter motivation is slipping, “ride bikes → earn bacon” is a strong argument.

Gorham, Maine plants its fat-bike flag
Local paper breaks down why fat bikes belong in your winter quiver.
The Gorham Times just ran “Fat Bike Season Is Here,” a solid primer on what fat bikes are, how groomed trails work, and how local volunteers from Greater Portland NEMBA keep more than 20 miles of winter singletrack rideable around Gorham. Great “send-to-your-skeptical-friend” piece, and a nice shoutout to SnowDog grooming and local shops renting fatties.

We Ride Fat Bikes In Unity
Global rides, local stoke, and a heavy reason to show up.
Over on Fat-bike.com, Seeley Dave is back with a long-form piece on unity rides held worldwide in memory of Alex Pretti. Around 50 riders rolled out from New Moon Ski & Bike to the CAMBA Hospital Trails in Hayward, joining hundreds more across at least 12 countries. The story leans into community, grief, and why showing up on snow with friends still matters.

Bellevue Park fat-bike trail proposal sparks debate
“Would you like a fat-bike trail at Bellevue Park?”…apparently, people have opinions.
Up in Sault Ste. Marie, a story on SooToday asks whether riders want a dedicated fat-bike trail in Bellevue Park. We can’t see the full article due to site restrictions, but the comment threads on sister Village Media sites suggest classic internet polarization: some riders stoked, others grumpy about “one more bike thing.” Either way, it’s a sign that fat bikes are mainstream enough to show up in city planning arguments.

Palmer Woods: Fat bikes + family XC ski mashup
One morning, two sports, maximum hot-chocolate justification.
The Leelanau Conservancy is hosting a Guided Fat Bike & Family-Friendly Cross-Country Ski morning at Palmer Woods Forest Reserve on Friday, February 13, 10:00 AM. Expect SnowDog-groomed trails, staff-guided laps, and a very northern-Michigan mix of riders and skiers in the same carpool.

Trail access vs. no-snow winter at Happy Jack, WY
When your fat bike season turns into shoulder season.
We couldn’t access the full Laramie Boomerang article “The winter that didn’t happen at Happy Jack yet,” but paired with Snow Dawg event coverage it paints a picture: thin snowpack at Happy Jack Recreation Area means more “snirt” than powder. The 6th Annual Snow Dawg Dare still rolled from the Happy Jack trailhead on Feb 8 with a mass-start, Olympic-themed fat-bike ride that works whether you’re on snow, dirt, or something in between.
